Nvidia’s controversial connector cable has been the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed by an RTX 4090 owner.
According to Tom’s Hardware, Lucas Genova filed a lawsuit last week concerning the 12VHPWR 16-pin connector used by the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card. He purchased an RTX 4090 graphics card and noticed that the connector began to melt shortly after installing it on his PC, Genova’s legal team noted in a legal complaint.
The GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition is now available
It appears that a design flaw in the 16 pins caused the melting, which is caused by high wattages flowing through them. Whenever there is even a temporary break in the electrical connection for any pin, the remaining pins will be overloaded with current, resulting in a meltdown.”
The connector cable has also been reported as melting by a few other RTX 4090 owners on Reddit and other social media sites. Genova is not the only user to raise concerns about the connector cable melting. Still investigating the reports, it has been revealed by Nvidia.
In the lawsuit, Nvidia is being sued for damages if the 16-pin cable connector on the RTX 4090 melts, as well as every other owner of the model.
