The Android 12 update has finally reached the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S10 units in the US. The update comes two months after it hit the carrier-locked variants in mid-January. The international versions of the 2019 Galaxy flagships picked up the big Android update in December 2021.
So it’s been a pretty long wait for those using an unlocked Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, or Galaxy S10 5G in the US. But they can all rejoice now that the Android 12 update is now live for their variants. The big Android update brings Samsung’s One UI version 4.0.
The Android 12 update for the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S10 phones comes with firmware version G97xU1UEU6HVA1. The update is already available on all carrier networks in the country, SamMobile has confirmed. So whether you’re using the device on major carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon or the likes of Cellular South, Comcast, C-Spire, and Virgin Mobile, you should be able to download the new software package soon if you haven’t already.
As always, you can check for updates by navigating to Settings > Software update on your phone and tapping on Download and install. If there’s no update available, check back again later. You might also receive a notification about the OTA (over the air) release once it becomes available for your phone. Since it’s a major update with the OTA file weighing in GBs, you might want to connect your device to a stable Wi-Fi network to avoid incurring unwanted cellular data charges.
What does Android 12 and One UI 4.0 bring to the Galaxy S10?
A lot. There are plenty of upgrades and changes from Google to talk about. New privacy features include display indicators for camera and microphone access, a dedicated Privacy Dashboard, and a quick toggle to cut off microphone and camera access for all apps at once.
On top of this, Samsung has introduced a dynamic coloring feature that extracts the color scheme of your wallpaper and applies it to the system UI elements. This makes for a uniform look across the device. The UI itself sees some changes as well. Samsung has also improved its stock apps and features like always-on display (AoD) and Dark Mode. You can find all One UI 4.0 features here.
The latest update for the unlocked Galaxy S10 phones in the US comes bundled with the January 2022 Android security patch. Samsung has already released the March security update to its devices. The new SMR (security maintenance release) should reach the Galaxy S10 units in the coming weeks.
