Approximately 200million people now use Snapchat to send self-deleting videos, photos and messages to their friends and followers on a daily basis.
The temporary nature of communication in the app – which was founded in 2011 by Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy – is meant to encourage more natural interactions.
But these natural interactions can be disrupted if the platform suddenly closes down while you’re using it.
Snapchat , like many popular apps, has an annoying tendency to crash – which is frustrating for users who lose their Snap streaks.
Yet, if Snapchat does crash all is not lost: there are many ways to troubleshoot and fix the issue so you can continue snapping away.
1. Reboot the app
Although it might sound a little bit IT Crowd , sometimes the best thing to do is to turn the whole thing off and start again. Rebooting the app is the first port of call for frustrated users and often this can refresh the app and solve the problem immediately.
However, if this doesn’t work then Snapchat says you should restart your device because the reason your app is crashing might be due to your phone acting up, rather than a problem with the app itself.
2. Check your wi-fi
The problem with your Snapchat could also have something to do with your connectivity, either your mobile data or your wifi-connection.
Snapchat recommends toggling between mobile data and wi-fi to see whether there is a difference in experience that way.
The troubleshooting section of the website advises: “Try alternating between Wi-Fi and mobile data to see if the issue is related to your connection. If your experience differs, we recommend you reach out to your service provider for more info.”
3. Check for an update
Sometimes it might be that there is an update that you need to download. So if nothing yet has worked then go to your device’s app store because updates can solve some your problems, and often deal with any bugs and glitches that have proven problematic.
4. Delete the app entirely and re-download it
The final port of call is to go into the app store of your device and uninstall the app entirely and then download it again. However, it is important that you wait for your Memories backup to be finished so that any saved Snaps are not lost to the ether of time.
This will also clear up space on your device.
